The Gang Plays Fantasy Football - Lets Talk Draft!
PLUS - Welcome to Our Newest Member, Survey Results, Housekeeping
Hi everyone,
Sure is going to be a hot one this weekend, eh?
The unseasonably warm weather no doubt brought about by climate change means only one thing - fantasy football season is right around the corner!
Thank you to everyone who completed last month’s survey. Here are the results:
Are you committed to play another year in TGPFF?
Fortunately the answer was “yes” for everyone except Jesse Prins, who has decided to bow out after two years in TGPFF. Jesse finishes with a 5-21 record and holds the record for the longest losing streak in league history — 11 straight weeks from Week 12 2019 - Week 9 2020. We thank him for his contributions to the league. In case you’re wondering, he will not be the maid at this year’s draft party, which is doubly disappointing considering he was the last place finisher two years straight.
But onto the good news - Jesse is being replaced with our friend Josh Wurtz. Josh, on behalf of the league, welcome to TGPFF! Many of you already know Josh and his wife Jazmyn, but those of you who do not will meet him when we draft. He’s a super nice guy and a great addition to the league. Like many of you he is also a big Seahawks fan, so if you want your hometown players you’ve got another homer ready to beat you to them.
Are You Open to Transitioning TGPFF to a Keeper League?
As you may recall, I set up this question on a 1-7 scale. The median score was 4.63; most were in support, if only tepidly. One league mate was resistant to the idea and Brad and I agreed prior to sending the survey out that we needed unanimity to move forward, so we will be tabling this proposal until next year.
I also solicited comments/questions/concerns related to this proposed transition. Here were the responses:
“I am co-opting this space to speak on another topic and say FUCK KICKERS let’s do this. I could go either way on D/ST.”
“Brad can keep DEEZ NUTZ”
Thank you both for your feedback. The animus our first commenter expressed regarding kickers leads us to the next survey question:
Are you in favor of replacing the Kicker position with another FLEX?
5 of you were in favor of replacing the Kicker position, 6 were not. This would need to be near-unanimous for us to change the settings, so consider this tabled.
Are you in favor of replacing the D/ST position with another FLEX?
Same results here - 5 in favor, 6 opposed, so D/ST is here to stay. I will continue to ask this yearly to see if attitudes change, but I know a few people in the league very committed to the status quo.
Are you comfortable with an in-person draft party complete with snacks, alcohol, sunshine, and the services of Jesse, our private butler?
Everyone was in favor of an in-person draft party with the exception of Jesse, because of the whole resignation thing, and Ivan, who recently relocated to The Netherlands. He did however indicate he will be there in spirit.
Because Ivan is 9 hours ahead of all of us in Pacific Standard Time, this year we would like to host the draft party at a time that is convenient for him - I’m thinking around Noon PST (9 PM Ivan’s time).
I know all of you are frantically booking vacations and filling every day with socialization, activity, and adventure in this post-Vaccine world, so we’re trying to lock down our draft date a bit early this year. Please complete THIS VERY SHORT SURVEY as soon as possible.
I’m assuming the draft will once again be held at Mia and Brad’s house in Mill Creek but we will share all details once a date has been decided upon.
Fingers crossed we can arrive on a date that works for us all! Have a great weekend and be safe.
Love,
Evan
